Anonymous asked: Why doesn't Marvel make Shang Chi Iron Fist? It's actually a popular idea going around the web and having Iron Fist actually BE Asian would work wonders. Picture Kun Lun being to Asians what Wakanda is to Wakandans. It'd be diverse. I have trouble picturing people accepting the fact that a non-Asian is A) essentially trying to be *them* and B) Kicking the crap out of the *them*. There's no doubt Asian fans are left behind comic wise. Pushing Shang or making him IF would solve things QUICKLY.
I see your point. But I don’t know that I’d try to solve it by making Shang Chi Iron Fist. On a purely mathematical level, that gives me one character rather than two, and has the potential of alienating fans of both.
In what way is Danny Rand trying to be Asian? That’s like saying anyone who learns a martial art is trying to be Asian, rather than having respect, discipline, and interest in the art of any form of fighting. Nothing about Danny Rand’s origin says that he is trying to be Asian, to me.
Besides, without Sang Chi being separate and still so bad ass. We’d never have the Iron Fist vs. Sang Chi showdown I’ve always wanted to see.
